BioThe character of Cassie is all Kate. The Skins universe is product of the Channel 4. James is a character that was mentioned in canon, but never actually seen on screen. His backstory was co-created by Kate and I.
James was Cassie's first real boyfriend and they met at a party Cassie and Michelle (her best friend) had crashed. He was three years older than her and 19 at the time (he's 20 now). He stood out because he was in a word a bit weird (mismatched shoes, odd brightly coloured clothes etc and wild curly hair) - something Cassie's always liked in a man. He also wasn't especially threatening as he's fairly slight and not especially tall. They ended up together at the party and bonded over a shared love of E. Cassie being Cassie wanted to sleep with him, but because he's actually a pretty decent guy said he wanted to actually go out with her first, making him
pretty much the first man that ever didn't just use her for sex.
Cassie was still anorexic at this time, but her mental health wasn't quite as bad as it became, and being with James actually helped her self-esteem because he was older and cute and actually treated her pretty well. Everything was great for a few months but then they went to a party and Cassie went off to catch up with her friends and when she came back caught him kissing another girl because he was high and stupid. This pretty much broke Cassie's heart because she did love him. Part of her desperately wanted to forgive him, but mostly owing to her friends and the humiliation of being cheated on at a party full of her friends she didn't. Her self-esteem suffered pretty badly after this, and she's tried to commit suicide and ended up in hospital a few times for both that and her anorexia and while he isn't exactly to blame he certainly didn't help matters. two of them.
After Cassie broke up with him, he's been pretty fucked up himself. He knows about her suicide attempt and her anorexia. He feels like it's all his fault, even if it really is only in part. He's gotten more high, more stupid, fucked around, and pretty much all he wants is to have Cassie back. They have a pretty destructive relationship between the two of them, or they did.
